Hiring a ghostwriter is a big decision, and most people only do it once. These are the steps that make it go well.
Know what you want the book to do
Before you contact anyone, decide what the book is for. A memoir for your family, a business book to win clients and a novel for a wide audience need different writers and different budgets.
Find writers with relevant samples
Ask for published samples in your genre. A strong business writer may not be the right fit for a thriller, and the reverse is just as true.
Ask the right questions
Who owns the copyright? How many revision rounds are included? How often will you see chapters? Will the writer sign an NDA? Clear answers to these questions protect you and the project.
Test the voice early
Ask for a sample chapter early in the project. It is the best way to see whether the writer has captured how you think and speak.
