A memoir is not your whole life story. It is one story from your life, told well.
Find the theme
Pick the thread that ties your memories together, such as a turning point, a relationship or a lesson. Leave out what does not serve it.
Write in scenes
Show readers the moments that mattered, with dialogue and detail, instead of summarizing them.
Be honest, including about yourself
Readers trust memoirists who show their own flaws. It also makes the moments of change feel earned.
