Roxyann Spanfelner got her education in off-grid construction the old-fashioned way: she earned it when she and her husband, Gary, chose to build a new home in a remote location. Before she began writing this book, she would wake up in the middle of the night thinking about their off-grid experience and how others could in some way learn and benefit from it. It was not as though she wanted to write a book about it, but she felt so strongly compelled that she had to begin. When she started, she did so in secret, not telling anyone—even her husband—until after she had hand-written a detailed outline and also a comprehensive draft of Chapter I. It was only after she had purchased a laptop, and her husband found a way to ensure Internet access at their remote location, that she shared her thoughts with him, who was behind her all the way. Even up until the publication of How to Build the Perfect Off-Grid Home, only a few people knew. Now the cat is out of the bag!
Spanfelner is currently renovating her recently acquired historic cabin deep in the woods that is off-grid too.
